Forest fire in Alanthurai forest range - Request for helicopter extinguisher service

A forest fire broke out in the Western Ghats forest area under Alandurai forest range in Coimbatore district and has been on fire for the last two days. While the forest department is putting out the fire with plants, forest activists have requested to douse it by helicopter.


Coimbatore: Forest activists have demanded that the forest fire in the Western Ghats forest area of Alandurai be put out by helicopter.

A forest fire broke out in the Western Ghats forest area under Madukkarai forest range in Alandurai Nadegoundan Pudur area of Coimbatore district and has been on fire for the past two days. The forest department is trying to douse the fire with plants.

The fire has been going on day and night for the past two days and since it is a hilly area, no fire tenders can move. As a result, a large number of forest staff and volunteers are putting out the fire.

Forest activists have demanded that the district collector should take steps to douse the fire using a helicopter at the Sulur Air Force Base.
