Tragic fire breaks out in Garbage - Filled rock-pit near Tirupur

At midnight, a big fire broke out in a rock pit in the Tirupur district's Ammapalayam area, where waste was being thrown. The fire department fought the fire for more than four hours and doused it. The fire is being investigated by police.

Tirupur: The police are investigating an incident in which a fire broke out in the middle of the night in a rock hole in the Ammapalayam neighbourhood where waste was being deposited.

Garbage is deposited in a rock hole on the Tirupur-Avinashi route in Ammapalayam. At the moment, garbage is not thrown there due to local residents' concerns that garbage dumping poses health hazards.

In this case, residents notified the Thirumuruganpoondi police and the Tirupur North fire department that a fire had started in a rock pit where waste had been deposited late last night.

Firefighters arrived to the location in two fire tenders and fought the fire for more than three hours. Around 1 a.m., the fire was entirely doused.

Thirumuruganpoondi police have registered a case and are probing the matter after thinking that some miscreants who came to the area may have lit them on fire.
