Karnataka Assembly elections 2023: Congress overtakes BJP in counting of votes

The counting of votes for the Karnataka Assembly elections, which was held on May 10, began this morning. As of 9 am, the Congress was leading in 106 seats while the BJP was leading in 82 seats.


Polling for the 224-member Karnataka Assembly was held in a single phase on April 10. An all-time high of 73.91 per cent voting was recorded.

Following this, the counting of votes began this morning as the voting machines were kept under tight security at 36 centres.

In the first phase, postal votes were counted. Subsequently, the counting of votes is going on in full swing.

From the very beginning, the Congress party has been leading in most of the seats. The ruling BJP and JD(s) are among the parties that are lagging behind.

As of 9 am, the Congress party was leading in 106 seats. The BJP is leading in 82 seats, while the JD(S) is leading in 21 seats.

Out of the total 224 seats, it needs to win 113 seats to get the required majority to form the government.

With the Congress leading in most of the seats, the party is holding celebrations at its headquarters in Bengaluru and Delhi.

Following this, the party high command has directed the winning Congress candidates to rush to Bengaluru immediately.
