In Tamil Nadu, 18 districts have scored centuries in temperature

In Tamil Nadu, 18 districts including Chennai, Madurai and Vellore recorded temperatures above 100 degrees Celsius two days back. Accordingly, Chennai Nungambakkam - 105.98 degrees, Chennai Meenambakkam - 105.62 degrees, Vellore - 104.54 degrees, Madurai City - 103.64, Namakkal - 103.64, Cuddalore - 103.28 and Thoothukudi - 103.1 degrees.



Chennai: As many as 18 districts in Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Madurai and Vellore, recorded temperatures above 100 degrees Celsius, according to the Chennai Meteorological Centre.

Tamil Nadu has been experiencing severe heat wave conditions for the past few months. Especially during the agni nakshatra period, also known as kathiri veyil, the influence of the sun reached its peak. 

In all the districts of Tamil Nadu, the sun lit the flames as if it had spewed flames. People suffered a lot because of this. It was not possible to stay inside the houses without fans, AC, etc. People used to buy and eat water sources like juices, buttermilk, curd, coconut water, watermelons and fruits to escape the sun.

Even after the end of the scorching heat, the impact of the heat wave is being recorded in many parts of Tamil Nadu. Chennai, Madurai, Vellore and Thoothukudi districts have been experiencing more than 100 degrees celsius in the last few days. In this situation, yesterday also, the impact of the heat wave was recorded in many districts beyond 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Accordingly, Chennai Nungambakkam - 105.98, Chennai Meenambakkam - 105.62, Tiruttani - 104.9, Vellore - 104.54, Madurai City - 103.64, Madurai Airport - 103.64. Meanwhile, due to convection, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely to occur at a few places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal for four days from yesterday to Tuesday. 

The very severe cyclonic storm Pipparjar, which hit the central-eastern Arabian Sea on August 8, moved north-northeastwards yesterday and lay about 800 km west of Goa. It was situated at a distance of about 820 km west-southwest of Mumbai and 830 km south-southwest of Porbandar (Gujarat). 

It is very likely to strengthen further and move north-northeastwards during next 36 hours and north-northwestwards during next 48 hours during next 38 hours, the Chennai Meteorological Department said.
