All India Kisan Sabha and the Tamil Nadu Farmers Association protest Demanding fair Price Fixation for Coconut Yield

Coimbatore District, is renowned for its high-yielding coconut production. Coconut cultivation has been significantly affected by wilt, resulting in a decreased yield and value of profits. Recently, farmers from the district have staged a protest demanding the state government to implement measures to increase the supply of coconuts and fix a fair price for the farmers in order to stabilize their livelihoods.

Coimbatore: More than 30 farmers raised slogans condemning the government, claiming that empty liquor bottles are valued Rs.10but coconuts are traded at an even lower cost of Rs. 7.

The protest was headed by S Palanisamy, district president, Tamil Nadu Farmers Association.

Coimbatore District contributes the maximum coconut yields in the state, and the majority of its agriculture is susceptible to wilt, lessening yield and profit quality.

During the protest, it was highlighted that the nearby state of Kerala supplies coconut oil throughout the state through fair-priced outlets. They strongly demanded the state government implement similar actions to increase the supply of coconuts and allocate a standard cost to stabilise farmers whose livelihood is dependent on the coconut cultivation.
