More than 100 handloom weavers march to demand control of yarn price hike

In the last few months, the prices of silk yarn and cotton yarn, which are considered to be the raw material of handlooms, have gone up drastically and the livelihood of the handloom weavers has been severely affected.



Tirupur: A procession was taken out and a petition was sent to the Chief Minister at the post office.

More than 1,000 people from the Devangar community are weaving handlooms at Kamanaickenpalayam near Palladam in Tirupur district and surrounding areas.

In the last few months, the prices of silk yarn and cotton yarn, which are considered to be the raw material of handlooms, have gone up drastically and the livelihood of the handloom weavers has been severely affected due to the lack of a permanent price.



Following this, hundreds of handloom weavers gathered in front of the Soundamman temple in Kamanaickenpalayam and marched towards the post office there. While there is a government order to fix the price of silk and cotton yarns and to weave the marked handloom fabrics in the handloom itself.



More than 250 handloom weavers sent their memorandums to the Chief Minister by post urging the Chief Minister to implement it.



Sulur AIADMK MLA Kandasamy and other party workers also participated in the protest and expressed their support. Devankar Sangha president Shanmugam, K Krishnapuram panchayat vice-president Padayappa Murthy and more than 200 handloom weavers were present on the occasion.
