TNAU with ICAR ATARI, Hyderabad organized Annual Zonal Workshop of KVKs

Dr. Udham Singh Gautam, Deputy Director General (Agrl. Extension) of ICAR, New Delhi inaugurated the programme on 17 th August 2023 and highlighted the importance of frontline extension carried out by 731 KVKs across the country


Coimbatore: Annual Zonal Workshop of Krishi Vigyan Kendras of ICAR –ATARIs in Zone X that include KVKs of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana is being organized at TNAU Coimbatore from 17 th - 19 th August 2023.



Dr.Udham Singh Gautam, Deputy Director General (Agrl. Extension) of ICAR, New Delhi inaugurated the programme on 17 th August 2023 and highlighted the importance of frontline extension carried out by 731 KVKs across the country and urged KVKs to meet the challenges faced by the farm sector and to impart need based programmes to the farmers.



The Deputy Director General (Agrl. Extension) released SPARK-News Bulletin of KVKs of Zone X, Technology videos produced by KVKs, Publications, and unveiled KVK Demonstrations units that can be accessed through scanning of QR Codes.



The Dr.P.P.Murugan, Director of Extension Education, TNAU welcomed the gathering. Dr. Shaik N.Meera, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Hyderabad presented the significant achievements made by the KVKs of Zone X.

Dr.R.R.Burman, Assistant Director General (Agrl. Extension), ICAR, New Delhi emphasized the importance of OFTs and FLDs in implementing at the grassroots level. He urged KVKs to act as single window knowledge centre.

Dr.T.Janakiram, Vice-Chancellor, Dr.YSRHU, Andhra Pradesh, in his special address mentioned that KVK is a successful system of the ICAR and the African countries are looking to implement this system. He spoke on the importance of horticulture sector in improving the farmers income and skill development.

Dr.B.Neeraja Prabhakar, Vice-Chancellor, SKLTSHU, Telegana highlighted the significant activities of the KVKs in Telangana state. Dr. G. Sugumar, Vice-Chancellor, TNJFU emphasized the importance of fisheries sector and advised KVKs to include fisheries component that could fetch four times income to the farmers.

Dr.V. Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor, TNAU delivered the presidential address and briefed on the TNAUs research, Extension and Educational initiatives and the convergence activities with development departments. Further, emphasized the role played by KVKs in facilitating KAVIADP, a flagship Programme of GoTN one Scientists – One Block Programme besides facilitating over 100 FPs in the Tamil Nadu as part of TNAU-FP Linkage.

The Deputy Director General Dr. Udham Singh Gautam released the publications of the KVKs, Spark Bulletin: Monthly Momentum of Zone X KVKs, QR code of the demonstrations at KVKs. Dr. J.V. Prasad, Principal Scientist of ATARI, ICAR, Hyderabad proposed the vote of thanks. All 72 Programme Coordinators of ATARI Zone X KVKs participated in the Programme.
