Nine killed and 40 injured as a tourist bus plunges into a 50-feet gorge near Coonoor

Nine people were killed when a tourist bus plunged into a 50-feet deep gorge on the Coonoor-Mettupalayam national highway yesterday.


Coimbatore: Nine people were killed after a bus fell into a gorge in Coonoor yesterday. An elderly woman is battling for her life.

Nine people were killed when a tourist bus plunged into a 50-feet gorge on the Coonoor-Mettupalayam national highway. More than 40 people were seriously injured.

They are undergoing treatment at the Coonoor Government Hospital.



One of them, Chellammal (75), was brought to Coimbatore government hospital in an ambulance at night.

She has been admitted for further treatment and is being examined by The Dean of Coimbatore Government Hospital Nirmala and doctors.

Chellamma, who was seriously injured in the Coonoor bus accident, sustained injuries at various places, including her head. She is undergoing intensive treatment.



Dean of coimbatore government hospital informed that 25 beds have been made ready and a medical team is on standby to treat the injured in the accident.
