Grama Sabha meeting at Sukkampalayam - Villagers go on hunger strike against panchayat administration

In Sukkampalayam panchayat near Palladam, people went on a hunger strike alleging that the documents related to the budget were not being submitted properly at the grama sabha meetings.


Tirupur: Tension prevailed in Tirupur as the public went on a hunger strike at a grama sabha meeting demanding proper drinking water supply.



On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi, a grama sabha meeting is being held at Sukkampalayam panchayat near Palladam in Tirupur district today.



People from Sukkampalayam, Kalivelampatti, Unjapalayam and TMS Colony participated in the event.



They said that the documents relating to the budget of the panchayat administration are not properly submitted in the grama sabha meetings. More than 50 people are on a hunger strike alleging that the panchayat administration has not been able to supply drinking water to the public properly and that the panchayat administration has calculated that rs 34 lakh has been spent in the last two years at the rate of Rs 1 lakh per month for maintenance of water pipelines.

They also said that the panchayat administration should take steps to provide proper drinking water and that they will continue the hunger strike till the budget documents are submitted.
