Heavy Rains Predicted Across Nilgiris & Valparai; Coimbatore to get good showers

Tamilnadu Weatherman predicts heavy rains in Nilgiris, Valparai, and moderate showers in Coimbatore on October 9, with several districts across Tamil Nadu expected to receive substantial rainfall. The delay in monsoon withdrawal continues, impacting various regions.

Coimbatore: The Tamilnadu Weatherman has issued a weather forecast indicating heavy rains in various districts of Tamil Nadu. According to the predictions, Nilgiris and Valparai are expected to experience intense rainfall on October 9, while Coimbatore will receive substantial showers. Additionally, several districts, including Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Namakkal, Tirupattur, Erode, Dharmapuri, Trichy, Karur, Dindigul, Western Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Madurai, Theni, Krishnagiri, and Perambalur, are set to receive significant rainfall in the coming days.

This forecast comes amidst a delay in the withdrawal of the monsoon, which was anticipated to begin around September 21, as indicated by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD's initial forecast of a 96% ± 4% rainfall against the long period average (LPA) was slightly higher than the realized rainfall of 94% of LPA over the country during the monsoon season from June to September 2023.

Blogger Pradeep John, known as the Tamilnadu Weatherman, mentioned the possibility of wind convergence-based rainfall in the interior districts during the transition from the southwest to the northeast monsoon. This transition might be further delayed due to the development of weather systems over east and northeast India, leading to a sense of anticipation among farmers for the northeast monsoon to bring abundant rains.

In light of the upcoming rainy season, farmers are closely monitoring the weather, hoping for favorable conditions to support agriculture. Similarly, the general public is urging local Corporations and Municipalities to take proactive measures to prevent waterlogging and address potholes, ensuring a smooth transition into the northeast monsoon season. Citizens are hopeful that timely precautions will mitigate the challenges posed by heavy rainfall and contribute to a safer environment for all.
