Tirupur Industry Electricity Consumers Demand Tariff Rollback: Hunger Strike Announced

The Tamil Nadu Industrial Power Consumers Association marched with black bands and presented a petition to the district collector with 5-point demands including the withdrawal of standing charge and rush hour charge.

Tirupur: The Federation of Electricity Consumers has declared a hunger strike on the 16th, urging the withdrawal of the recent electricity tariff hike.

Representatives from the Tamil Nadu Small and Micro Enterprises met government ministers, requesting the formation of the Tamil Nadu Industrial Sector Electricity Consumers Federation.

Despite prior protests, including a production stoppage and email strikes, their demands remain unmet. In a recent demonstration in Tirupur, industrialists petitioned District Collector Christuraj, emphasizing the industry’s struggle amid rising charges.

Over 300 industrialists rallied, demanding the government fulfill their five-point demands. They plan to escalate their protest with a hunger strike in Chennai on the 16th.
