Workers Demand Diwali Bonus: HMS Raises Concerns in Coimbatore

Organized by Hindu Mazdoor Sabha (HMS), the protest saw a strong assertion for bonus of Rs 7000, of workers’ rights and financial expectations during the festive season.


Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu: A fervent demonstration unfolded at the Coimbatore South Municipal Office as workers from various establishments demanded a Diwali bonus of ₹7,000. Organized under the banner of Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS), the protest saw a strong assertion of workers’ rights and financial expectations during the festive season.

Workers’ Demands:

The workers, representing diverse industries and organizations, unitedly appealed for a Diwali bonus of ₹7,000, emphasizing the need for financial support, especially in the face of rising living costs and economic challenges. Their demands included timely disbursement of bonuses, inclusion of new employees in the bonus scheme, implementation of safety measures in workplaces, and ensuring decent housing facilities for all workers. The workers also stressed the importance of maintaining uniform online platforms for welfare services to streamline communication and support systems.

HMS Advocates Workers’ Rights:

Hind Mazdoor Sabha (HMS), a prominent trade union in the region, spearheaded the demonstration, advocating for the rights of workers and pushing for improvements in various aspects of their working conditions. Rajamani, the state secretary of HMS, and Pachanisamy, a key member of the state executive committee, led a delegation of more than 150 workers. Together, they presented their demands, emphasizing the urgency of addressing the workers’ concerns to ensure a dignified and secure livelihood.



Key Concerns Raised:

The workers highlighted essential areas requiring immediate attention, including financial stability through timely bonuses, expansion of bonus schemes to cover new employees, enhanced safety measures at workplaces, and the provision of decent housing options for all workers. Additionally, the demonstrators emphasized the need for a unified online platform to facilitate easy access to welfare services, underscoring the significance of modernizing support systems for the workforce.
