Tirupur: There was a commotion at Kethanur near Palladam as lightning struck the wind farm which had not been functioning for six years early this morning and it completely burnt down.

Residents of the area say that a major accident has been averted as the wind turbine that caught fire due to lightning was not working.

It has been raining in Tirupur district around Palladam. In this case, many wind turbines are operating on the road from Ketanur to Manasipalayam.

The windmill, which had not been operating for six years, was suddenly struck by lightning this morning and the windmill completely caught fire.

The people of the area say that it has been 30 years since the establishment of this wind farm and the wind farm has not been working for the last six years and a major accident has been avoided because the wind farm was not working.

Palladam Fire Department personnel reached the spot after receiving the information and are trying to bring the fire under control. No loss of life has been avoided as there are no houses or livestock nearby.

The reason for the accident was that the wind turbine owned by Hi Tech Solutions was not working and the wind turbine was not being disposed of. There are many such wind turbines in the area and the people of the area have demanded that they should be disposed of immediately to avoid such accidents.
