Tirupur: In a devastating incident near Udumalpet, three individuals lost their lives when the roof of a booth collapsed while they sought shelter from the rain. The victims, who were laborers eagerly waiting for their bus, met with the unfortunate fate as heavy rains lashed several parts of the region.

The incident occurred in the Koilamedu locality near Udumalpet, a town in the Tiruppur district. As torrential rain poured down last night, laborers, desperate to shield themselves from the downpour, huddled beneath a makeshift booth. Tragically, the roof of the booth gave way under the weight of the rainwater, resulting in a fatal collapse.

The victims have been identified as Manikandan (28), Gowtham (29), and Murali Rajan (35). Their lifeless bodies were recovered from the debris and immediately rushed to the Udumalai Government Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and raised concerns about the safety of such temporary structures during heavy rains. Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances leading to the collapse.

Rescue Efforts and Investigation Underway

Local law enforcement, upon receiving the distress call, swiftly mobilized a rescue operation. Firefighters and emergency response teams worked tirelessly to retrieve the victims from the debris. The injured were provided immediate medical attention, but unfortunately, it was too late for Manikandan, Gowtham, and Murali Rajan.

The Udumalai Government Hospital confirmed that the victims' bodies have been sent for autopsy to ascertain the exact cause of death. Preliminary reports suggest that the heavy rain weakened the makeshift structure, leading to the tragic incident.

Community Mourns the Loss

The news of the untimely demise of the three laborers has left the local community in grief. Many residents expressed their condolences and shared their concerns about the need for safer shelter facilities, especially during adverse weather conditions.

Local authorities have urged residents to exercise caution during heavy rains and avoid seeking refuge in poorly constructed shelters. They have also assured a thorough investigation to determine if any negligence led to this tragic incident.
