Unauthorized Hoisting of BJP Flags Leads to Arrests in Coimbatore

BJP Leader K. Annamalai had earlier announced that from November 1, 10,000 BJP flagpoles would be erected across Tamil Nadu over 100 days.

Coimbatore: In an unforeseen incident today, over 40 members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were arrested by the police for hoisting party flags without permission. The event was held in the Masakkalipalayam area of Coimbatore, with significant local BJP leaders, including district chief Balaji Utham Ramasamy, taking part in the unauthorized assembly.

This incident follows the removal of a BJP flagpole situated near the residence of state BJP chief K. Annamalai in Chennai’s Panaiyur, which caused substantial unrest among the party members. K. Annamalai had earlier announced that from November 1, 10,000 BJP flagpoles would be erected across Tamil Nadu over 100 days.

Defying this, a large group of BJP members, led by key figures like Balaji and deputy state chief Kanakasabapathi, gathered today for the flag hoisting. Police intervened promptly, arresting over 40 individuals involved for assembling without the necessary permissions.

BJP city district head, Balaji Utham Ramasamy, criticized the police action, cautioning that continuous oppressive measures could lead to a significant public upheaval and strong protests from their end.
