In a long-awaited response to a plea extending over three decades, the leader of the Northern Zone, V. Kathirvel, has fulfilled the wish of the residents of the 10th Ward in Saravanampatti, Coimbatore. The area, known in the electoral rolls as Harijan Colony, was officially renamed Periyar Nagar, honoring the request of the local people for a name that reflects their cultural and ideological values.

This demand was continuously pursued by the local council member, who brought the matter to the forefront of the municipal discussions. After relentless efforts and discussions with the collector and ministers, the resolution was passed in the Coimbatore City Municipal Council meeting.

The residents have expressed their joy and satisfaction with this change. The new nameplate was unveiled by Paiyya Gounder (aka) Krishnan in a ceremony attended by V. Kathirvel, the Northern District leader, Suresh, and the local community.
