Decrease in Crime Rates in Tirupur; Focus on Law Enforcement in 2024

Tirupur's Police Commissioner Praveenkumar Abinapu reported a reduction in crimes in 2023 compared to last year. Enhanced law enforcement and safety campaigns have led to fewer incidents and increased traffic fine collections.

Tirupur: In a recent meeting with journalists at the Tirupur City Police Commissioner's office, Commissioner Praveenkumar Abinapu highlighted a notable decrease in crime rates in 2023 compared to the previous year.

Specifically, the number of motive-based murders dropped from four last year to just one this year. Additionally, 22 robbery cases were reported, with the perpetrators arrested in all cases. Last year saw 163 cases of robbery, with successful arrests and recovery of stolen goods, while this year, the number increased to 216 cases. Child and women-related crimes also saw 85 cases registered, with 74 under the POCSO Act, leading to arrests.

The commissioner emphasized the importance of safety measures like wearing helmets and seat belts, contributing to a decrease in fatalities from accidents. Traffic rule violations led to the collection of fines amounting to 12 crores INR this year. Intensive actions against the sale of cannabis and gutka resulted in 102 shops being sealed for violating warnings. Looking ahead to 2024, there will be a heightened focus on law and order, including intensified efforts to curb the sale of tobacco products and narcotics.
