Police Disperse Crowd at Biryani Shop in Kottaimedu Post New Year Celebrations

Following New Year celebrations, a crowd gathered at a biryani shop in Coimbatore's Kottaimedu area, leading to traffic congestion. Police intervened to disperse the crowd, which had stayed beyond the permitted hours, using mild force.

Coimbatore: The celebration of the New Year around the world began as the clock struck midnight. In Coimbatore, various places saw festive celebrations, with people enjoying the moment through dance and song. Post the celebrations, many planned to relish delicacies, leading them to various eateries, especially after 1 AM.

In Coimbatore's Kottaimedu area, a large number of people, particularly meat lovers, flocked to eateries serving biryani, grill, chicken rice, and other non-vegetarian dishes.

This resulted in traffic congestion in the area during the night.

Despite the police's instructions to close shops by 3 AM, several eateries remained open beyond the permitted hours. When the police arrived to enforce the closure, the crowd did not disperse immediately.

In response, the police resorted to mild lathi-charge to disperse the crowd, causing the meat enthusiasts to scatter. Those who had come to enjoy meat dishes after New Year celebrations ended up returning home following this minor confrontation. The incident led to a tense situation in the area for a while.
