Need Circular rail network and MEMU service between Coimbatore, Pollachi & Tiruppur - Coimbatore Indian Chamber of Commerce

Chamber also suggested Enhancement of daily rail services from Salem and Dindigul to Coimbatore, over a distance of 160 km, targeting peak travel times to benefit regular commuters and revitalize long-standing rail routes.

Coimbatore: In a significant move towards urban development, the Coimbatore Indian Chamber of Commerce has submitted proposals to the railway authorities for an extensive upgrade of the railway infrastructure in Coimbatore. These proposals are aimed at leveraging existing structures to create a more efficient transportation system within the city and its surrounding suburbs.

Key proposals include:

1. Introduction of a circular rail network within Coimbatore, using existing infrastructure to alleviate traffic congestion.

2. Expansion of the suburban rail network through regular MEMU services to connect Coimbatore with Mettupalayam, Pollachi, and Tirupur, covering 40 km.

3. Enhancement of daily rail services from Salem and Dindigul to Coimbatore, over a distance of 160 km, targeting peak travel times to benefit regular commuters and revitalize long-standing rail routes.

The chamber underscores the potential for Coimbatore to become the third highest-earning station in the Southern Railway network, which includes Tamil Nadu and Kerala, following Chennai Central and Egmore, through these infrastructure developments.
