The Muthukumaraswamy Temple in Mathappur near Palladam is alive with traditional festivities, marking the 19th day of the sacred Mandalam festival with grandeur and devotion.

Palladam, January 3, 2024: In the serene village of Mathappur near Palladam, devotees are celebrating the 19th day of the Mandalam festival at the revered Muthukumaraswamy Temple. The temple, which is sanctified by the presence of Goddess Maragathambigai and Lord Mahimaleeswarar, has been a hub of spiritual activity following the conclusion of the Thirukkudai Nanneerattu festival.

Today's festivities have been organized by the Vaiko Balu-Dhanamani family from Vadugapalayam and the Lokanathan-Malathi family. The occasion was marked by special abhishekams (ritualistic anointment), decorations for the deities, and the Maha Deepaaradhana (grand lamp offering) witnessed by throngs of devotees who attended the Mandalam pooja and sought divine blessings.

Following the pooja, the cultural segment featured the Valli Kummiaattam performance by Velarasi Kalai Kuzhu, which depicted the marriage of Lord Murugan to Valli through song and dance. Women dressed in matching attire performed the Kummiaattam dance, adding fervor to the festivities. The day concluded with the distribution of special annadhanam (food offering) to the thousands of devotees who visited the temple.
