Valparai's Tea Estates Witness Tender Moments of Elephant Herds

The Valparai region near Coimbatore has become a spectacle of nature as wild elephants, including calves, are frequently spotted in the tea estates, with recent efforts by forest officials to reunite a stray calf with its mother.

Coimbatore: The lush tea estates around Valparai, near Coimbatore, have been graced by the gentle giants of the forest. There's an increase in the movement of wild elephants in the estate areas, with sightings of both solitary elephants and herds during the day. Recently, a herd of 13 wild elephants with a calf was spotted wandering in the Pannimedu estate area.

In a heartwarming incident, a calf that strayed away from its herd at night was safely reunited with its mother by the forest department, led by Forest Officer Manikandan of Manaampalli. The forest officials have been diligently monitoring the herd, especially the mother and calf, ensuring their safety.

In an innovative step, drone cameras have been employed to keep track of the elephants' movement.

A touching scene was captured in the Thonimudi estate area, where the mother elephant and her calf were recorded resting and sleeping amidst the tea plants, later being gently guided back into the forest by the officials.
