Coimbatore's "Namma Veettu Saappadu" Initiative Feeds the Needy in Kavundampalayam

A Coimbatore youth who wants to remain anonymous, inspired by actor Vijayakanth, anonymously serves free meals to 40-50 people daily in Kavundampalayam under the "Namma Veettu Saappadu" program.

Coimbatore: In Goundampalayam, an inspiring young man, Surya Kumar (name changed for anonymity), has initiated the "Namma Veettu Saappadu" (Our Home Food) program, providing free meals daily to 40-50 people. A college dropout, Surya works in banking services and occasionally engages in social service. His long-held desire to feed the hungry, hindered by financial constraints, finally took shape inspired by actor Vijayakanth's philanthropic acts.

With the support of a private marriage hall owner in Kavundampalayam, Surya started this initiative, offering a variety of home-cooked meals including rice, curry, rasam, yogurt, mixed rice, eggs, and milk. The beneficiaries include the elderly, differently-abled persons, transgender individuals, and the unemployed.

He also employs differently-abled and transgender individuals in this service. Visitors can contribute voluntarily in a donation box after their meal, while those unable to pay are welcomed to eat for free.

Surya plans to expand this initiative to other locations and maintains anonymity in his charitable work, following the example set by his inspiration, Vijayakanth.
