Man Arrested for Smuggling 300 Kg of Ration Rice in Coimbatore

Police in Coimbatore arrested a man for smuggling 300 kg of ration rice, intended for illegal sale at higher prices in Kerala.


Coimbatore: The Civil Supplies Crime Investigation Department of the Pollachi police conducted a vehicle inspection near the S.I.H.S. Colony in Coimbatore. During the check, they stopped a suspicious cargo vehicle and found 300 kg of ration rice packed in bags.


The driver, identified as Sivadasan (age 45), from Kodumbu, Chennam Koduvai in the Palakkad district, was interrogated. He confessed to buying the ration rice at a lower price from the public in the S.I.H.S. Colony, Neeli Konam Palayam area, and selling it at a higher price in the illegal market to hotels and grocery stores in Kodumbu, Kerala, for profit.


Following the discovery, Sivadasan was arrested and later presented before the court, where he was remanded to custody. This incident has highlighted the ongoing issue of ration rice smuggling in the region.
