Coimbatore Corpn Imposes ₹1.52 lakh Fines for Houses Breeding Dengue Mosquitoes

Coimbatore authorities impose fines of Rs. 1.52 lakhs on residents for breeding dengue mosquitoes in stagnant water, reinforcing cleanliness and preventive measures.

Coimbatore: In response to the rising cases of dengue and viral fever in Coimbatore district, the district administration and health department have ramped up preventive measures. One significant step includes identifying areas with high dengue infection rates and intensifying mosquito eradication efforts.

As part of this initiative, Coimbatore Municipal Commissioner Sivaguru Prabhakaran, along with East Zone Assistant Commissioner Kavitha and Health Inspector Chandran, conducted inspections in Thirumurugan Nagar today. During these inspections, construction sites and residential areas were surveyed for potential mosquito breeding grounds.

It was found that in several locations, water stagnation in drums and flowerpots led to mosquito breeding, increasing the risk of dengue and malaria. Consequently, fines totaling Rs. 1.52 lakhs were imposed on six property owners for neglecting to maintain clean surroundings.

The inspection team also advised the public to ensure no water stagnation occurs in their areas, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness to prevent mosquito breeding. This action by Coimbatore's municipal authorities underlines their commitment to curbing the spread of vector-borne diseases through active community participation and enforcement.
