Coimbatore Collector Urges Citizens to Celebrate Pollution-Free Bhogi Festival

Coimbatore Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati appeals to the public to avoid burning harmful materials during Bhogi, emphasizing environmental health and safety concerns.

Coimbatore: In a significant environmental appeal, Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati has urged the citizens to celebrate Bhogi, a traditional festival, in a pollution-free manner. The festival, traditionally celebrated by burning old items, has evolved into a cause of concern due to the burning of harmful materials like plastics, synthetic fabrics, rubber, old tires, and chemically treated papers. This practice has led to increased air pollution, causing respiratory issues, eye irritation, and contributing to accidents and vehicular difficulties. Furthermore, it has also been causing delays in flight operations. The Collector emphasized the importance of protecting air quality and requested public cooperation in avoiding the burning of old items during the festival.
