Coimbatore Madhukkarai Dharmalingeswarar Temple Officials Suspended for Alleged Irregularities

The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department suspends lifetime trustee Krishnasamy and another from Madhukkarai Dharmalingeswarar Temple over alleged financial irregularities.

Coimbatore: In a significant development, the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department has temporarily suspended Krishnasamy, the lifetime trustee of Madhukkarai Dharmalingeswarar Temple, along with another individual, Thirumurthi, over alleged financial and administrative irregularities. This action follows after a complaint by C.K. Kannan, a former trustee of the temple.

The temple, located in the Madhukkarai Marapalam area in Coimbatore, operates under the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department. An investigation was initiated following complaints of various irregularities occurring without the department's knowledge. The inquiry revealed several issues, including the mismanagement of temple funds and offerings, unauthorized construction activities, financial losses to the temple, and embezzlement.

Additionally, a significant piece of property, estimated to be worth around ₹125 crore and spanning 28 acres along Madhukkarai Highway, was found not to be registered in the temple's name. Furthermore, there was no action taken to generate income from these assets. Also, discrepancies were found in the management of the temple's marriage hall, where the income generated was not accounted for properly.

As a result of these findings, the Joint Commissioner of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department has taken the decision to temporarily relieve Krishnasamy and Thirumurthi of their duties pending further investigation.
