Coimbatore City Corporation's Public Grievance Day Meetings Halted for the Fifth Week

Residents of Coimbatore Corporation continue to wait as the weekly public grievance day meetings have been postponed for the fifth consecutive week, raising concerns about the redressal of common issues.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Corporation has been unable to resume its weekly public grievance day meetings, a platform for addressing the common problems faced by the residents. These meetings, typically presided over by Mayor Kalpana Anandakumar, have not been held for the past four Tuesdays due to administrative reasons, and the trend continues as the next scheduled meeting on January 23, 2024, has also been canceled.

The last meeting was held on December 12, 2023, and was expected to reconvene after the Pongal holiday on January 15, 2024. However, the consecutive cancellations have led to an unprecedented five-week gap. Usually, if Mayor Kalpana is unavailable, Deputy Mayor Vetri Selvan would take charge, or in their absence, the city's Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners would attend to the public's issues.

The cessation of these meetings is unusual as they are an essential avenue for at least 30 petitions from the public to be heard each week. The delay is causing a significant backlog of grievances awaiting the municipality's attention.
