Development Plans for Amaravathi Dam Park Underway, District Tourism Officer Conducts Survey

A survey led by the District Tourism Officer, Aravindakumar, assesses the development needs of Amaravathi Dam Park in the Tirupur district.

Coimbatore: The Amaravathi Dam Park, situated at the foothills of the Western Ghats near Udumalai in Tirupur district, is set for a major development overhaul. District Tourism Officer Aravindakumar conducted a thorough survey to plan the enhancement of the park's facilities.

Attracting around one lakh tourists annually, Amaravathi Dam Park contributes approximately Rs. 10 lakh in revenue each year. However, the basic infrastructure at the park has been inadequate for several years.

The survey was conducted to address these gaps and propose improvements to make the park a better destination for tourists. During the assessment, Aravindakumar discussed the ongoing efforts by the Water Resources Department to maintain the park with Assistant Engineer Aravind.

Water Resources Department Assistant Engineer Aravind highlighted the shortage of staff for park maintenance and mentioned that a proposal worth Rs. 5 crore for development works has been submitted. The proposal includes essential amenities such as drinking water facilities, restrooms, children's park, fencing, dustbins, signboards, fountains, lighting, landscaping, murals, and photo exhibitions.

Local leaders like Andiyagoundanur Panchayat President Mohanavalli Rajasekaran expressed willingness to provide basic facilities for tourists through the panchayat, though they faced hurdles in obtaining necessary approvals. The panchayat has passed several resolutions to establish at least basic toilet facilities immediately.

Global Poopathy, the head of the Tirupur District Tourism Development Committee, and tourism enthusiast Naveen Kumar also participated in the survey.

Post the survey, District Tourism Officer Aravindakumar shared his optimism that the proposal will be approved by the government soon, paving the way for significant tourism development activities at Amaravathi Dam Park.
