Wild Elephant Herd Disrupts Tea Plucking Operations Near Valparai, Coimbatore

Tea estate workers in Valparai, Coimbatore district, face disruptions in their work due to the movement of wild elephants in the area.

Coimbatore: The tea estates near Valparai in the Coimbatore district have been experiencing unusual disruptions due to the presence of wild elephants. With the change in climatic conditions, these elephants are migrating from Valparai to the forest areas of Kerala.

This morning, workers at the Nadumalai Estate, near Valparai, were heading to the tea gardens for their routine plucking work when they encountered a group of six wild elephants, including a calf, within the tea estate. Fearing for their safety, the workers immediately informed the forest department.

The forest officials promptly arrived at the site and managed to drive the elephants back into the nearby forest area. The tea plucking work, usually starting early in the morning, was delayed by an hour due to this incident.

The frequent movement of wild elephants in the area has been causing concern among the local residents and estate workers. The forest department has intensified its patrolling and safety measures in response to the situation, aiming to ensure the safety of both the locals and the wildlife.
