Helmet fines cross Rs.24 lakhs in March

The Coimbatore city police have collected fines amounting to Rs.24.48 lakhs from two-wheeler riders for violating the mandatory helmet rule, in the month of March alone.

According to the police, following an intense crackdown on two-wheeler users who were not wearing helmets, the traffic wing of the city police had registered 24,844 cases in March this year.

Despite complaints from disgruntled riders, the compulsory helmet rule has drastically reduced the number of head injury related fatal accidents involving two-wheelers.
