Kumaraguru Institutions Spearheads National Conclave on Sports Science

Coimbatore's Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science, in collaboration with the Sports Psychology Association of India, announces a groundbreaking National Conclave on Sports Science. The event, featuring dignitaries like Ravneet Gill and Dr. David V. Rajan, aims to revolutionize sports science, benefiting athletes and the broader community.


Coimbatore: In a significant development for sports science in India, Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS) together with the Sports Psychology Association of India, has launched a National Conclave on Sports Science. This conclave is dedicated to exploring new frontiers and propelling the domain of sports science to unprecedented heights. Designed to be a melting pot for professionals from varied sectors such as industry, academia, and government, the event aims to foster collaboration and stimulate progress in athletic performance and human potential. "Let’s Transform the World of Sports Together," the conveners rally.

The inauguration saw the esteemed presence of Ravneet Gill, Founder of New Horizons Alliance Private Limited, who alongside Dr. David V. Rajan, a renowned Arthroscopy Surgeon and Founder of Ortho One - Orthopaedic Speciality Centre, and Shri Shankar Vanavarayar, President of Kumaraguru Institutions, opened the Sports Performance Lab. This marks a milestone on the sidelines of introducing a pioneering B.Sc. Sports Science program at KCLAS, a first in Coimbatore, aimed at cultivating a holistic understanding of sports science among students and professionals alike.

Shri Shankar Vanavarayar emphasized the evolving perception of sports in India, from a mere passion to a sector with substantial economic impact and community-building potential. He envisions the initiative as a catalyst for societal development, fostering research and start-ups within the sports ecosystem.

Ravneet Gill highlighted the multifaceted nature of sports science, encompassing disciplines like sports psychology, physiology, biomechanics, and nutrition. He stressed its importance in unlocking human potential and promoting widespread participation in sports across India's vast population. By enhancing the sports ecosystem, Gill believes, India can significantly improve its sporting success and overall societal well-being.

Dr. David V. Rajan added that sports serve as a microcosm of life, underscoring the relevance of sports science and medicine for every Indian. He highlighted the advancements in these fields since the 1980s and 1990s, advocating for a comprehensive approach to athlete development that involves parents, coaches, and specialists across various disciplines.

The conclave is a clarion call for embracing a broader perspective on education, akin to the widespread acceptance of technology and new media. With sports science at the forefront, the future of Indian sports looks promising, driven by an educated, healthy, and active population.
