Devotees Throng Marudhamalai Temple on Tamil New Year's Day

On April 14, marking the Tamil New Year, a large number of devotees visited Marudhamalai Temple in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu to offer their prayers and observe traditional rituals.


Coimbatore: Today, on April 14, the Tamil New Year, also known as Chithirai Tirunal, is celebrated with great fervor across Tamil Nadu. Many families carry out rituals involving three fruits, gold and silver coins, and jewelry at home, praying for prosperity and flourishing lives. Furthermore, people visit temples to offer their prayers.



According to tradition, Marudhamalai Temple, dedicated to Lord Murugan, witnessed a significant influx of devotees from early morning. Not only from Coimbatore but also from various other districts, people came in large numbers to participate in the festivities. Devotees engaged in carrying milk pots and fulfilling vows by carrying Kavadis.

Considering the heavy crowd, temple authorities allowed entry through the stairway only after 7 AM, leading to many devotees waiting eagerly for their turn. Some even crossed barriers to make their way through.



To manage the crowd and ensure safety, several police officers were deployed at the temple grounds.
