Income Tax Raid at BJP Administrator's Home in Vellakoil; ₹31.74 Lakhs Seized

A substantial cash amount of ₹31.74 lakhs was seized during an income tax raid at a BJP administrator's home in Vellakoil, Tiruppur district, following a tip-off. Further investigations are underway.

Coimbatore: An income tax raid was conducted at the residence of a local BJP administrative secretary, identified as Jawahar, in Vellakoil, near Kangayam in Tiruppur district. The enforcement action led to the seizure of ₹31.74 lakhs in unaccounted cash. The raid was part of a routine check owing to the upcoming parliamentary elections on April 19.

The authorities acted on confidential information that claimed Jawahar held substantial amounts of cash without proper documentation. The search extended to various parts of the house including wardrobes and inner rooms, leading to the discovery of the cash.

An initial investigation linked the seized cash to Erode AIADMK candidate Arul Ashokumar, who is reportedly a friend of Jawahar. It was alleged that the money was intended for temple restoration projects in the area and possibly for voter inducement.

Police are conducting further investigations to determine the legitimacy of the funds and their intended use. The seized money has been handed over to the revenue department officials in Kangayam for further action.

Jawahar has claimed that the money was set aside over two years for temple construction and is not related to any malpractice. He has provided written proof to support his claims, stating that the cash has no connection to the impending elections.
