Vehicle Checks Limited to State Borders During Elections, Says Chief Electoral Officer Sathya Prada Sahu

Chief Electoral Officer Sathya Prada Sahu announces vehicle checks at state borders will continue until elections conclude in Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. This measure ensures smooth and lawful conduct of polls.

Coimbatore: Chief Electoral Officer Sathya Prada Sahu highlighted key updates regarding the ongoing elections. According to her, 72.09% of votes were cast by 7:00 PM across the state, not including postal votes. An interesting spike in voter turnout was observed post 3:00 PM due to the day's intense heat, with provisions made for voters arriving at polling stations by 6:00 PM to cast their votes using tokens.

Sahu emphasized the smooth and law-abiding execution of the elections, praising the efficient functioning of voting machines. As per Election Commission's directives, until elections are completed in neighboring states—Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh—intensive monitoring and patrolling will be conducted at the state borders by the flying squads and surveillance teams. Other regions will not see such activities.

Furthermore, any transportation of cash over Rs. 50,000 within border areas will be seized. Polling station chiefs, election observers, and party representatives can request recounts based on their initial reports if necessary. The election process concluded smoothly without any law and order issues, ensuring a high level of compliance and integrity in the polling process.
