Grand Chariot Festival at Avinashilingeswarar Temple in Tirupur

The prestigious Avinashilingeswarar Temple in Avinashi held its annual Chariot Festival amidst chanting and traditional music, drawing numerous devotees from across the region.


Coimbatore: The annual Chariot Festival at the renowned Avinashilingeswarar Temple, a key religious site among the Kongu Seven Sivalayams, was celebrated with great fervor. The event occurred in the town of Avinashi, Tirupur district, known for its rich cultural heritage.



The festival began with the ceremonial flag hoisting on the 14th, followed by a series of events including the Sun and Moon podium on the 15th, and displays of Adhikara Nandi, Kili, and Bootha on the 16th.



The highlight, occurring on the 17th, featured the pulling of the ornate temple chariot by thousands of devotees amid chants of 'Om Namah Shivaya' and traditional music played forcefully.


On the final day, the grand chariot procession took place, where the deity of Karunambikai alongside Avinashi Appar was revered on the chariot. This significant occasion attracted devotees and Sivanadiyars from Avinashi, Tirupur, and beyond, who actively participated in the chariot pulling, making the event a spiritually enriching experience for all attending.


To facilitate the procession, temporary traffic changes and safety measures were implemented by the local police, ensuring a smooth flow of the three-day festival. The chariot was placed on West Chariot Street after culmination of the events, with plans to proceed the following morning.


The Avinashilingeswarar Temple's Chariot Festival not only serves as a spiritual gathering but also reinforces the cultural unity and devotion among the community.
