Intensified Disinfection Measures at Tamil Nadu-Kerala Border Due to Bird Flu Alert

In response to a recent outbreak of bird flu in Alappuzha, Kerala, rigorous vehicle disinfection is underway at the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border near Udumalai to prevent the disease's spread.

Coimbatore: Following the sudden death of ducks and chickens in Alappuzha, Kerala due to bird flu, preventive measures have been accelerated at the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border near Udumalai. The Livestock Department is actively disinfecting vehicles coming from Kerala, particularly focusing on their wheels, to curb the spread of the infection.

Three teams comprising a veterinary assistant, a researcher, and two livestock maintenance assistants are rotating in shifts to ensure comprehensive coverage. The outbreak prompted an immediate response involving the prohibition of poultry meat, eggs, and feed from Kerala into Tamil Nadu. Additionally, livestock departments are conducting inspections at poultry farms where they are instructing owners to report any unusual poultry deaths immediately. This surveillance will continue until the bird flu outbreak is fully contained.

The disinfection drive and other preventive measures have been overseen by Pugazhendi, Director of the Tirupur Regional Livestock Maintenance Department, alongside Udumalai Assistant Director Jayaram, veterinarians Raja Sokkappan, Abdul Kalam, and other staff members.
