Residents Demand Halt to Tree Removal Under Rathinapuri Bridge in Coimbatore

Residents and environmentalists in Ward No. 47, Dr. Jeevanandam Road, Coimbatore, have opposed the ongoing removal of trees under Rathinapuri Bridge, urging authorities to consider the environmental impact and take necessary action.

Coimbatore: In a recent turn of events, residents and environmentalists are voicing strong opposition against the removal of trees located under Rathinapuri Bridge along Dr. Jeevanandam Road. The tree removal work, which started on April 24, has sparked concerns among the local community. Community members emphasize the need to preserve these trees, considering their environmental benefits.

They have called on the officials to halt the process immediately and assess the ecological impact of such actions. The protestors highlight the importance of these trees in sustaining the urban climate and urge municipal authorities to reconsider the decision.

The issue was raised by civic activists from the area who argue that the environmental costs of removing mature trees could far outweigh the benefits of any planned infrastructural developments. They demand that the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation take immediate and relevant action to address these concerns, to protect the green cover which is crucial for the city’s environment.
