Wife and Lover Sentenced to Life in Prison for Husband's Murder in Coimbatore

In Coimbatore, a wife and her lover were sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs. 6000 each for murdering her husband and burying his body.

Coimbatore: In a shocking incident from Madukkarai, Coimbatore, a court has handed down a life sentence to Amutha, 36, and her lover Shankar, 32, for the murder of her husband, Nagaraj, 35, a laborer. The crime, driven by an illicit affair, culminated in the brutal murder on April 19, 2021, where Nagaraj was fatally attacked with an iron rod and later buried.

The affair came to light when Nagaraj discovered the clandestine relationship between his wife and Shankar, originally from Thoothukudi, leading to frequent quarrels. The situation escalated, resulting in the planning and execution of Nagaraj’s murder. After killing him, the duo buried his body in the same locality, attempting to act uninvolved. However, unusual soil disturbances raised suspicions among the locals, leading to police intervention.

The case was tried in the Coimbatore First Additional Court, where 15 witnesses testified. Following a comprehensive investigation, the verdict was rendered on April 29, 2024, by judge Sasirekha, who sentenced both Amutha and Shankar to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 6000 each.

In recognition of their diligent efforts in handling the case, the district Superintendent of Police, Badrinayaranan, praised Investigating Officer Anandakumar for his excellent conduct during the investigation and in court proceedings.
