Allegations of Delay and Negligence by Electricity Board Officials in Providing Connections in Padiyur

Residents of Periyar Nagar in Padiyur, near Kangayam, allege significant delays by electricity board officials in providing connections to government-sponsored homes despite multiple recommendations from Minister MP Saminathan.

Tirupur: In a troubling update from Padiyur, near Kangayam, electricity board officials have been accused of causing undue delay in providing electricity connections to homes built under a government scheme.

The affected area includes about 2000 homes predominantly inhabited by laborers in Periyar Nagar. These allegations come despite the intervention and recommendations by the Minister of Tamil Development and Information, MP Saminathan, who had forwarded concerns to the electricity board after complaints from the public.

Despite the homes being completed two years ago with financial support of Rs. 2.4 lakhs from the government’s housing scheme, residents are still facing hurdles. Applications for electricity connections were made three months ago, but officials have reportedly postponed installation, citing various reasons. The residents, distressed by the inaction, claim that speedy processing occurs only upon bribery. This accusation highlights potential corruption and neglect within the system, undermining government efforts to facilitate basic amenities.
