Heavy Rainfall Leads to Severe Traffic Congestion in Coimbatore

On May 18, heavy rainfall in Coimbatore resulted in waterlogging on various roads, leading to severe traffic congestion, causing distress to vehicle operators.

Coimbatore: Continuous heavy rainfall in Coimbatore on May 18 led to water stagnation on many of its roads. Shortly after the rain ceased, intense traffic jams were reported across the city, significantly affecting the daily commute of vehicle operators.

The most affected areas included Ukkadam, Sungam Bypass, and the road from Ukkadam to Palakkad, where vehicles were seen crawling in a line. Traffic congestion was also severe on Oppanakara Street, Town Hall, Trichy Road, and Avinashi Road, where vehicles lined up for long distances.

Due to the traffic jams, many drivers were unable to reach their destinations on time, experiencing considerable delays. Moreover, both women and men faced prolonged waits for buses, adding to the commuters' woes. This situation highlights the susceptibility of Coimbatore's infrastructure to adverse weather conditions, raising concerns about the need for better rainwater management and traffic handling in the city.
