Pillaiyarpuram Initiates Innovative Tree Planting and Water Harvesting Project

In Pillaiyarpuram, Coimbatore, a new ecological initiative has been launched for rainwater harvesting and tree planting, covering 27 acres, supported by ZF Wind Power Coimbatore Pvt Ltd and the Tamil Nadu Forest Department.

Coimbatore: In a significant environmental effort aimed at sustainability, the Pillaiyarpuram area of Coimbatore has recently seen the implementation of a dedicated tree planting and rainwater harvesting project. This initiative, facilitated by the combined efforts of the Tamil Nadu Forest Department and ZF Wind Power Coimbatore Pvt Ltd, under the coordination of the Kovai Kulangal Padhukappu Amaippu, spans an impressive 27 acres.

As part of this project, trenches meeting specific dimensions—20 feet apart, 2 feet deep, and 1 foot wide—have been strategically dug. Each trench is lined with banks to efficiently manage and store rainwater. This system not only facilitates the direct absorption of rain into the ground, immensely benefiting the forestation efforts but also ensures that the water is effectively retained within the soil.

With the ongoing heavy rains as of May 18, this meticulously designed setup ensures that the rainwater spread over 27 acres percolates into the subsoil, transforming into a vital water resource for the newly planted trees and contributing significantly to groundwater replenishment.
