Residents Plagued by Garbage Dump in Anbu Nagar, Ukkadam

Residents of Anbu Nagar in Ukkadam, Coimbatore, suffer from severe odors and health issues due to a poorly managed private garbage dump affecting daily life.

Coimbatore: Residents in Anbu Nagar, along with those in Ponvizha Nagar, Arul Nagar, and Super Garden in Ukkadam, are enduring severe distress due to a private garbage dumpsite in their vicinity. The presence of the waste has led to persistent bad smells and significant health problems among the locals.

The community members have repeatedly reported these issues to the Coimbatore District Collector and the Coimbatore City Corporation, yet no actionable measures have been taken. This negligence has resulted in increased sickness among children and the elderly, with two fatalities already linked to diseases from the garbage-related pollutants.

Fed up with the unbearable living conditions, the residents demand immediate action from city officials. Complaints include daily mosquito infestations and unbearable living conditions, particularly post-sunset when breathing becomes a challenge due to the overwhelming stench. The local water supply is also reported to be contaminated with the foul odor, further exacerbating the residents’ woes.

Local authorities are yet to respond to the escalating health crisis caused by the garbage dump.
