Tragic Drowning Incident Claims Lives of Three Family Members in Bogampatti

In a heart-wrenching incident at Bogampatti, three family members, including a 15-year-old girl and her cousin aged 13, drowned in a local pond on May 26.

Coimbarore: Three members of a family from Bogampatti, Sulur, drowned in a tragic incident on the afternoon of May 26. Manikandan, 40, his daughter Tamilselvi, 15, and Manokaran’s daughter, Bhuvana, 13, went to a local pond for a swim and tragically lost their lives as none of them knew how to swim.

When the family members did not return home, Bhuvana's mother, Sarojadevi, visited the pond only to discover the devastating scene of Tamilselvi's floating body. Immediate alerts were sent to Sultanpet police and the Sulur fire station, whose rescue team retrieved the bodies.

The villagers were shocked, as the pond's depths were known to be shallow. However, recent illegal soil extraction had deepened the pond without their knowledge. Furthermore, recent rains had filled the pond to higher levels, misleading the family about its safety. Villagers are now urging strict action against those who have illegally deepened the pond.
