Efforts on to tranquilise Elephant

Forest Department personnel on Sunday spotted the tusker that is suspected to have trampled three persons to death at Mango Range area, in The Nilgiris. It is learnt that the two forest veterinarians who were ready to tranquillise it could not dart it as the animal was moving in a thick Shola patch.

Meanwhile, one of the three kumki elephants brought for the operation was attacked by a wild elephant, in the wee hours of Sunday. Forest personnel said that they could not confirm if the attacker was the same elephant that trampled three persons to death. The kumki that was attacked is said to be out of danger.
