District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati Oversees Removal of Water Hyacinths in Kurichi Lake

On June 10, 2024, Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati visited Kurichi Lake to inspect the removal of water hyacinths using modern machinery, aiming to enhance the city’s rainwater conservation ahead of the monsoon.


Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Corporation has initiated the removal of pervasive water hyacinths at Kurichi Lake, in the southern zone of Coimbatore, under the observation of District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati IAS.



The operation involves the use of advanced machines to clear the invasive aquatic plants that hinder water storage efficiencies in the region.



The site visit by the District Collector on 10th June 2024, was conducted in the presence of Mayor Kalpana Anandakumar, and the City Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran IAS. The focused initiative is a part of a larger effort to enhance water conservation measures before the upcoming monsoon season across multiple water bodies including the Krishnaampathy Lake, Selvampathy Lake, Kumaraswamy Lake, Selvasindamani Lake, Ukkadam Periyakulam, and Valankulam, apart from Kurichi Lake.



Following the school summer vacation, in a related development, Coimbatore City Corporation also facilitated the distribution of free textbooks at Kuniyamuthur Government Higher Secondary School.



District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati IAS, Mayor Kalpana Anandakumar, and City Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran IAS oversaw the provisioning of educational resources to students, which forms a crucial part of the city’s developmental agenda.



During these engagements, the district officials also examined ongoing construction works at Gandhipuram’s Central Jail premises where a new park named Semmozhippoonga is being developed at an estimated cost of ₹133.21 crore.
