Admission Open for Children Above 5 in Tribal and Adi Dravidar Welfare Schools in Coimbatore

Children above 5 can join tribal and Adi Dravidar welfare schools in Coimbatore for free education, announces District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati. Admissions are ongoing for this academic year.

Coimbatore: District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati has announced that children above five years old can now gain free admission into schools under the Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department in Coimbatore District. The announcement comes as part of an effort to improve education access to underprivileged communities in the region.

The schools offer education from grades one through twelve. Presently, under the Tribal Welfare Department, there are 15 schools including 12 primary schools, one high school, and two higher secondary schools. Similarly, under the Adi Dravidar Welfare Department, there are 16 schools in total – 11 primary schools, two middle schools, two high schools, and one higher secondary school.

Focused on enhancing educational opportunities, the government facilitates various benefits for students attending these schools. Among them are reservation quotas in government jobs and medical entrance exams, along with monthly scholarships specifically for girl students to prevent educational discontinuity. Additionally, schools distribute free textbooks, bags, and bicycles to encourage consistent attendance and ease the educational journey.

With the admissions currently ongoing for the new academic year, the District Collector encourages parents to avail these educational benefits by enrolling their children in the nearest Adi Dravidar or Tribal Welfare Schools.
