Bomb Threat Issued to Coimbatore International Airport

An unidentified person sent a bomb threat via email to Coimbatore International Airport today, intensifying security measures across all key sections of the airport.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore International Airport, situated on Avinashi Road in Chitra, received a bomb threat through an email today at approximately 1:30 PM. According to the email, explosive devices were planted within the airport premises and could be detonated at any time. This prompted immediate action from airport authorities, who heightened alert levels and briefed both the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and local police about the potential threat.

The authorities have since increased security, specifically focusing on vehicle parking areas, cargo loading zones, and entry and exit points of the airport, utilizing bomb detection squads, sniffer dogs, and other protective measures. The police are currently investigating the credibility of the threat but are operating under the assumption it might be a hoax, similar to previous incidents reported nationally, including similar threats sent to Chennai and other airports across the country.

The increased security checks and scrutiny on vehicles approaching the airport have significantly tightened, ensuring the safety of passengers and staff. Coimbatore Airport Director Senthilvalavan commented on the incident, stating all necessary precautions to secure the airport and investigate the threat have been intensified to prevent any potential risk.
