Tamil Nadu Minister TRB Rajaa announced in the Legislative Assembly that the expansion work for Coimbatore International Airport will commence shortly, following the completion of ₹2,100 crore land acquisition procedures.

Chennai, June 28, 2024: In a significant announcement made today in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, Minister TRB Rajaa stated that the expansion work for Coimbatore International Airport would begin soon. This development marks a crucial step forward for the industrial hub of Western Tamil Nadu.

Speaking on the floor of the assembly, Minister Rajaa highlighted the historical importance of Coimbatore, noting that the city has been at the forefront of industrial development for over a century. He emphasized that the airport expansion is a vital necessity not just for Coimbatore but for the entire Western region of Tamil Nadu.

The Minister provided key details about the project:

1. Land Acquisition: The DMK-led government has successfully completed the land acquisition process for the airport expansion.

2. Financial Allocation: A substantial sum of approximately ₹2,100 crore has been allocated for this project.

3. Current Status: The preliminary work, particularly the land acquisition phase, has been fully completed.

Minister Rajaa stated, "Coimbatore and the surrounding Western region have been industrial powerhouses for over 100 years. Recognizing the crucial need for improved air connectivity in this area, our DMK-led government took charge of the land acquisition process for the Coimbatore Airport expansion. We have allocated about ₹2,100 crore for this purpose, and I'm pleased to announce that the acquisition work has now been fully completed."

The expansion of Coimbatore International Airport is expected to significantly boost the region's economic prospects. With improved infrastructure and capacity, the airport will be better equipped to handle increased passenger traffic and cargo operations, potentially attracting more investments to the area.

This development is likely to be welcomed by both the business community and residents of Coimbatore, who have long advocated for the airport's expansion to meet the growing needs of the region.

The announcement also underscores the state government's commitment to enhancing infrastructure in key industrial centers. As Coimbatore continues to grow as a major economic hub in South India, the airport expansion is seen as a critical step in supporting this growth and improving connectivity with other parts of India and the world.

Local authorities, industrialists and aviation experts are now eagerly awaiting further details on the expansion plans, including the projected timeline for completion and the specific enhancements that will be made to the existing airport facilities.
