Aavin Boosts Milk Procurement; Plans to Expand Capacity, Says Dairy Development Minister Mano Thangaraj

Mano Thangaraj, TN Dairy Development Minister, stated in Coimbatore that Aavin has boosted its milk procurement to 36 lakh litres per day and plans to handle 70 lakh litres daily soon.

Coimbatore: While addressing the media after a review meeting with Aavin officials in Coimbatore on Sunday, Dairy Development Minister Mano Thangaraj announced significant advancements in Aavin's operations. The daily milk procurement has recently increased to 36 lakh litres and is expected to reach 40 lakh litres in the near future. He emphasized ongoing enhancements in Aavin's infrastructure aimed at managing up to 70 lakh litres per day.

“Aavin is not threatened by Amul's entry into the Tamil Nadu market as we provide competitively priced, high-quality products through a wide delivery network,” Thangaraj commented, addressing market competition concerns. He highlighted the Tamil Nadu government's support for local farmers through loans, subsidies, and animal care initiatives, ensuring that Aavin remains their preferred choice.

Thangaraj also touched on Aavin's response to consumer feedback for updates in the product line, including considerations for ghee sachets to cater to the demand for products with increased shelf life but without chemical preservatives. Additionally, in support of livestock farmers facing reduced pastoral land, the government is examining the possibility of providing affordable fodder options and strategies to optimize the cattle yield per capita in Tamil Nadu.

Currently, a local cow yields about 5 to 6 litres of milk daily, compared to 35 litres in developed countries. "We are aiming to elevate this to between 10 and 15 litres. Efforts are ongoing in this area as well," he stated, suggesting significant potential for further development in the dairy sector.
