In Karumathampatti, Coimbatore, two men, Abishek Dora and Abishith Dora, were arrested for selling 9 kilograms of ganja chocolate. The act is detrimental to public order and health.

Coimbatore: In a significant crackdown on illegal narcotics sales, Coimbatore Police have detained two individuals from Odisha, Abishek Dora, 30, and Abishith Dora, 27, for selling ganja-infused chocolates. The duo was apprehended by the Prohibition Enforcement Wing of the Periyanaickenpalayam area a few days ago with around 9 kilograms of the illicit substance.

Following their arrest, the Coimbatore District Police Superintendent, Badrinarayanan, recommended stringent actions against them under the Goondas Act, marking their activities as a threat to public health and order. Subsequently, Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati authorized the preventive detention of both under the stringent provisions of the Goondas Act, based on the impact of their activities on public order and health.

Dated today, July 1, Abishek Dora and Abishith Dora were remanded into custody under the act. The District Police Superintendent further warned that any actions causing public disturbance or health issues would prompt similar legal actions under the Goondas Act. This move highlights the ongoing efforts by local authorities to curb illegal activities that jeopardize public safety and health in Coimbatore.
